My father was rushed into hospital with cardiac issues. He spent 14 days there receiving treatment and was completely spoiled and cared for by the fantastic staff there. The only complaint I have is that the efficiency at management level seemed quite weak. 1. The doctor staffing levels were inadequate, My father could have been out of the hospital in maybe 7 days had there been more doctors available to treat him. Hence the NHS had to cover the extra cost of keeping him (and about 4 others in his ward) for the extra time required for treatment This is false economy. More doctors should be recruited with the money that would be saved by the potential shortened stays of patients. 2. The communication between doctors / doctors and doctors / patients (not nurses / patients) was also weak. Although the treatment was fantastic, the lack of information and inaccurate information relating to treatment, planning, etc was quite frustrating.. especially as my mum suffers from early stage dementia and so was getting very upset each time she was given bad information as a result of these confusions. Having a member of family hospitalized is very distressing. People have to completely reorganize their lives , often at great financial cost, to care for their loved ones. So receiving bad information has a really negative knock on effect both emotionally and financially. Again though, I would like to emphasize that the treatment my dad received was fantastic. The above comments are just improvements that could be made to make it an even better place to visit.

I am apalled at the attitude of some of the qualified nursing staff and absolutely disgusted at the bad attitude and 'bullying' tactics used by two junior doctors and some consultants . I am a relative who was with a patient who had been addmitted to A/E then moved on to the Medical Unit. My relative is elderly and suffers with dementia and had been in the same hospital a few weeks previously. During this stay she was attacked by another patient ( who was not at fault due to illness ) overnight and therefore was extremely anxious at being left alone overnight on the ward. At the previuos admission her carer had been allowed to stay with her overnight and the Senior Nurses explained that they encourage people familiar to the patients with dementia to stay with them. This is not the case ! I explained the circumstances to the Staff Nurse in A/E and on the Ward of the incident but they both informed me and the carer that we should leave the patient , EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS TEARFUL AND ANXIOUS. The carer did infact stay with her. The medical ward and A/E is of course a very busy environment and whilst we appreciate the increased staff workload and it would have been impossible for them to be with her ,it does not excuse nurses and doctors being dismissive , rude and verbally aggressive towards patients and relatives. Infact it would have indeed helped the staff, yet they are more concerned about the 'system' and not the needs of the patient ! We even observed a qualified nurse being indifferent to an elderly patient on A/E whos visitors had left and even told the patient to stop shouting as it was ' upsetting other patients' ! Did they not think that an elderly person being in a strange environment might provoke anxiety , confusion , upset or it could be signs of early dementia ?? Shocking attitude especially as the hospital promotes itself as giving excellent 'dementia' training to all its staff ! The attitude of the junior doctors was also apalling and when I tried to offer information on my realtive's condition I was told that I was making the doctor 'feel uncomfortable'. Despite all this I have a Lasting Power Of Attorney for Health And Welfare for my relative , yet most staff , both nursing and medical disregard this and proceed to speak to my relative with dementia who isn't able to give a clear medical history , and not to myself. The second junior doctor the following morning was very abusive to us as relatives , at the bedside and even hit the vistor in the next bed as she drew back the curatin in a brisk and impatient manner !! When I askd the doctors name I was given a 'sticky' note by her and she also sarcastically asked if I wanted her registration number - she wasn't bothered by her bad attitude! Speaking to the consultant about the incident was a complete waste of time as he didn't seem very interested. This seems to be the problem at this hospital - the bad attitudes of some of the consultants and the 'bullying' of patients and relatives is seen by the junior doctors who therefore are given 'ammunition' to behave in the same way. Rude consultants filter rude junior doctors who then become rude senior doctors ! The hospital complaints / concerns system is hopeless , yes they have a 'system' which is supposed to encourage people to raise concerns but they are very poor in actually making necessary changes as we observe bad attitudes time and time again, and this has gone on for years ! The care itself falls extremely short of what it should be , including missed medication and full catheter bags in beds and not on stands is only two things of a list of many things and the list is very long ! It has left us as relatives distraught.

My mother who I write for died there. Completely disgusted. For 5 whole days told lies by 'specialists and registers upsetting till last hours Contrarily 4 nurses and one junior doctor remained with humility. Dragged away 2 hours prior.. for the senior to speak without allowing comments at first. Do you know Senior specialists believe... In offering operations they say will kill someone just 2 hours prior to death. All admit telling rubbish but this is is ok but in 'best interests' of a patient you held capacity to the end When asked told palliative care was not considered out of hospital as district nurses aren't capable of obtaining what's needed so to forget.

My dad has recently had treatment here , he was in for 5 weeks and has come out with Grade 7 pressure areas to his foot and leg . We were very disappointed with the care and will be putting in a a formal complaint , made me and family saddened and angry when he told us he felt neglected while in the ward . He was given little to no help while in hospital, also was discharged unsafely with no OT home assessment carried out . There's so much more list is endless , missed IV medication many times , left in his theatre gown for 2 days after the OP and only then helped because we complained , dressings left on for days ,only changed when we complained .

Visited a relation in Morriston hospital on Easter Monday 2017 Reception areas, admin. and visitor support non existent. The reception was closed. We had to wander around the wards unchallenged to find the ward my relation was on. Following the visit we noted there were no hygiene dispensers visible in the ward or in the corridors for us to clean our hands. We visited the toilets. Again no soap provided. My partner unable to use the toilet as it was filthy. Feeling like a coffee we went to the Costa cafe. Unfortunately it was 5.00pm. and closing. My relation though medicated was not able to receive the necessary scam or magic eye. Every time I asked where are staff, the reply was its Bank Holiday. And people think our NHS is in safe hands ????.

I had a skin graft and was on Powys ward the first treatment for some old burns I have had in 44 years and the way I was treated by all staff was outstanding I could not have asked for better. Excellent communication, information and compassion from all levels of the staff, the after care is still ongoing and just as good as on the ward. Just remember the patient has their role to play as well it is not a one way street.

I visited this hospital yesterday to attend the trauma clinic. From the moment of entry into the hospital I was guided through to the department needed by friendly aids. The waiting area was pleasant and the screen address system with patients main appearing was very important. No one wants to be in hospital but to make you feel less stressed is a good situation standard to attain.Thank you.
